Quality & Production

Industrial precision instead of artisanal romance

Most olive oils in the DACH region are sold with a story: small farm, hand-picked olives, family tradition for generations. It sounds nice — but it does not guarantee consistent quality.

We have consciously chosen a different path. DIVO is produced by Basso Fedele & Figli S.r.l. — an industrial producer with its own quality control, in-house laboratory, and a certification history that is unrivaled in the industry. Not because craftsmanship is bad — but because for an everyday oil, which must taste the same every day, precision is more important than poetry.

The production facility

Basso Fedele & Figli S.r.l. was founded in 1904. Today, the company operates in San Michele di Serino (Avellino, Campania), near the ports of Naples and Salerno.

Basso Fedele & Figli S.r.l., Via Nocelleto 46, 83020 San Michele di Serino (AV), Italy

  • 13,000 m² total area — of which 2,500 m² production, 2,400 m² warehouse, 7,500 m² outdoor space
  • Bottling lines for glass, metal cans, and PET
  • New automatic high-bay warehouse for finished products — currently under construction
  • Export to all continents: Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Oceania, Africa

The laboratory

Basso operates its own laboratory directly on the factory premises. 90% of all analyses are carried out in-house:

  • Acidity
  • Peroxide value
  • Spectrophotometry
  • Fatty acid profile
  • Waxes, stigmastadienes, sterols
  • Pesticides

The remaining 10% — including aflatoxins, heavy metals, and PAHs — are carried out by external laboratories accredited to ISO 17025.

The in-house laboratory participates in proficiency tests with SSOG Milano. Result: Z-score within the standard range for all parameters.

This means: Every batch is tested before bottling. What goes into the bottle is documented.

Certification

All certificates are issued by DNV Business Assurance Italy S.r.l. — one of the world's leading certification companies.

  • IFS Food Version 8, Higher Level — Score: 98.81%, IFS Star Status (unannounced audit)
  • BRCGS Food Safety Issue 9 — Grade AA+ (unannounced audit)
  • ISO 22000:2018 — Food safety management system
  • ISO 9001:2015 — Quality management, certified since 1999 (over 25 years)
  • HACCP according to Codex Alimentarius (CXC 1-1969, Edition 2022)

What does "unannounced" mean?

In an unannounced audit, the auditor appears without advance notice. The plant must be audit-ready at all times — there is no way to prepare or mask weaknesses. Basso has passed this audit four years in a row (BRCGS 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 — all unannounced, all passed).

Security and Food Defense

The site is completely enclosed and access-controlled:

  • Video surveillance with documented camera positioning
  • Access via magnetic card — authorized personnel only
  • 24/7 site security, security personnel live on the premises
  • Food Defense Plan (PR16) — audited annually
  • Packaging material is checked for integrity before entering production and outer packaging is removed

Standards and sustainability in our supply chain

Our industrial customers' requirements for quality, traceability and documentation are part of our own standards. We work with the certified bottling company Basso in Campania and are improving our operations step by step. This includes consolidating B2B deliveries and reusing intact shipping boxes.

What this means for you

For the catering industry: You can build your menu around this oil — the next delivery will taste identical. Same batch, same specification, same taste.

For home cooks: You get a professional product at an honest price — without a premium for marketing stories about Tuscan hills and hand-picked olives.

For both: Every number on our website — acidity, peroxide value, fatty acid profile — comes from real laboratory reports. None of this is advertising. Everything is verifiable.
